  1. Unfortunately yes, seems the staff got back from Epic and shortly after goto the shop to find the doors chained. Yet the team is still going afaik, since thats linked to Fly as a fibre provider. Sad to see and somewhat disappointing, there were quite a few staff between the shop and kitchen. Hoping they got sorted somewhere along the way.
  2. Can understand if people are somewhat weary though, case in point the abrupt Fly Cycles closure. Not drawing a connection between the two. But yes, also gathered it's a bit of a side hustle that maybe they hope grows into something more substantial. Its a saturated segment in a pretty fickle market and industry, but if they make a go of it, best of luck to them.
  3. Not sure where you’re based but I’ve seen them at Trailwolf, just not that size. Them or any other LBS would probably have to order in for you. I’ve been running Challenge Getaway for a bit now and have been mightily impressed. Maybe there’s something there that could work https://www.dinao.store/brand/challenge/ Tufo and Mitas/Rubena could also be another option. Specialized also do some proper CX/gravel tyres. Continental, not sure about their local options but there may still be stock of their 33mm tyres.
  4. Ok 🤷‍♂️ ? … just answering the OP’s question.
  5. They’re legit, they do some ‘comm rides’ up in Gauteng. Contact details are on their site Contact: 064 501 9679 Email: info@mbocycling.co.za Socials: https://www.instagram.com/mbo_southafrica?igsh=NmhjNmU3anZrMGY5 https://strava.app.link/NsGrYIDFx2b
  6. Nothing wrong with it, a couple people I know who’ve bought. One because he forgot his expensive ‘high end’ helmet at home and just wanted a sub 1k lid. Almost prefers it to his five grand lid. Fits well, has all the features, cool max pads, single dial adjustment and adjustable cradle and straps. Quality and finishing is up there. Where it does lack is an eyewear mount and MIPS. MIPS would be a fair bit extra though. Depends on your preference/budget ratio. It’s my personal preference but it’s not an absolute, particularly if budget is serious consideration. Fit and comfort are nb. Titan Shredder is also worth a look and has a MIPS option.
  7. Give a bit of history on the frame, afaik the Slakline is alloy. So is this a proto or limited model? That kind of background goes a long way. Give the bike a good clean and polish, as in properly. Photograph it drivetrain side against a clear background like the garden/building wall. Take close up shots of key specs/parts and any obvious damage/marks. It doesn’t need to be an editorial shoot. Clear shots from a smartphone is fine, 10 max. Be honest about the condition and state of the bike! Check similar spec and year bike models for pricing bud, it’s very subjective. Given that this is a trail/enduro build and relatively niche. I’d suggest you consider selling the frame and parting the rest out in line with what you want to upgrade.
  8. Not legal advice, just based on previous experience. In the context you’ve posted. Lay the charge, it’s criminal assault at the least. You have witnesses etc SAPS cannot deny you the right to open a case on the basis they explained, ask for the station commander to see/open a case with IPID against any officer stating this. Document everything! Including video. If you’re going to commit. Get a legal representative with experience in this area, asap. PPA may be a good start. Don’t drag on this and waste time on forums/socials. That can come after and with the security of legal backing, one wrong post can ruin/undermine your efforts. 9. Leaving out the silly hyperbole. Why post it on this thread where there is absolutely no relevance to the discussion and topic at hand? It detracts from a wholly serious issue, rather than posting on a thread that is actually relevant, like Dopers Suck. @Matt possibly better to move these posts to the Dopers Suck thread or a new thread?
  10. Afaik there’s no direct Avinox support channel in SA currently, but that could change tomorrow. Outer are the same guys that do Lyne Components, based in Woodstock. The same building as cSixx and Pyga as it turns out. They’re long established in the industry and have connections all over the world. One of the guys (Dayle, founder) was with Silverback originally. The current Outer project they’re working directly with Avinox. So if you decide to go that route, you should have peace of mind as far as spares and warranties go.
  11. African Icons, Summerplace. Summerplace trails are incredible, as is the venue and catering. Typical bushveld environment. Another event to diarise. It’s not a race but a three day riding social vibe that follows the stage/organisation format. Organised by an NPO it’s dully catered and has a 60 rider limit (excl families/partners) Not sure on the entrance fee and what it includes, approx 10/12k which is matched by the goodie bags. Two sets of riding kit, hoodie, T-shirts, nutrition etc in a proper zip up kitbag. https://www.instagram.com/p/DXD9E5dDYne/?igsh=MWwzaWh2cnJ6ZHR4Yw==
  12. Great list, there are plenty of alternatives out there. Think a lot of the time people get caught up in 'Epic' and dont take the time to understand the implications such an event can demand of you. It's not a first timer challenge for most. Berg & Bush has to be one of my absolute faveroutes (yes spelling) the organisation, location and terrain, routes, not over subscribed and overall gees make it a no brainer. 2 and 3 day options.
  13. Oh well, thats that then.
  14. It was a broadcast issue, not DStv/Supersport.
  15. Van Rysel rain shell from Decathlon. Compact but be sure about sizing. Alternatively take a look at a compact poncho. A shower cap works great for your helmet.
  16. Chose these specifically for the palm and padding design. Use them mostly OffRoad and for gravel for the last couple of years now. Still almost like new and no signs of wear. Easy to wash with a quick rinse and they dry quickly. Keen to try out the Ciovita ones as well as they seem similar. Always good to have a spare pair of gloves on hand. https://www.montonsa.co.za/products/SKxMT-Short-Gloves-Black-p438178409 Just to add, I bought mine At Northcliff Cycles on Beyers Naude. Well worth the visit if you’re in Joburg, they are a the stockists/supplier for Monton in SA.
  17. Very different dynamic nowadays, that’s not a good or bad thing. There are pros and cons attached to any growth and/or evolution of an event. TdF for example has seen large changes over its 120 odd years of existence. For Cape Epic and the Epic Series, it’s headed up by local Saffer Jonathan Meintjies.
  18. Good for you Erik, wishing you only the best. Whatever happens, never lose your love for racing/riding your bike. It’s the one thing that will always be cathartic and bring perspective. Everything else is just noise.
  19. Epic finale, guiding Epic Trippers. Still had to be on the finish and working. But worth it!
  20. Caught this the day on Tristan Nortje’s arm when Nortje/Beers slipped into red.
  21. Think it often gets misinterpreted as such, because he’s generally deadpan and has a pretty sharp dry sense of humour.
  22. It’s been/being covered through many local news. Leave the conspiratorial nonsense to the refugees.
  23. Ja they really are racing from the heart. Enjoy their overall vibe, they seem to have a good rapport and are always ready with answers during post race interviews.
  24. Pritzen had a crash, breaking his handlebar and an injury.
  25. Was a proper day out! 140km OffRoad will always sting! https://www.instagram.com/p/DWBznKsDDDt/?igsh=ZGJndmcxYjNqZDBz
